Maybe you do every day during your morning exercise routine. Maybe you did once for some online course you took. Or maybe you listen to random podcasts during long road trips. But have you ever grown your business through podcasts?
Podcasts offer a wealth of resources for the small business, and generally they are completely free. And just to set the record straight, we’re not only talking about listening to podcasts. We’re also going to look at how to utilize podcasts that already have the listening ear of your target audience in order to grow your business.
Chances are there is a podcast out there that hundreds, even thousands of your ideal customers already listen to, and you have the potential of sharing your expertise on that podcast and gaining incredible exposure for your business. So let’s jump in.
Here are a few of our personal favorites from your team at Oostas.
I’ve personally gained so much from listening to Henry Lopez on the How of Business podcast. Each episode is on a different topic relating to questions and struggles of the average small business owner. Check it out here: https://thehowofbusiness.com
This relates more directly to marketing a small business, but again, such a wealth of resources and insight from Rich Brooks and all of his outstanding guests. Check it out here: https://www.theagentsofchange.com
This podcast also is geared towards answering tough questions posed by small business owners around the nation. Co-host Brad and Jill offer a very candid approach to tackling common questions head on. Check it out at https://www.breakingdownyourbusiness.com
Incredibly successful podcast hosts can have an onslaught of people asking to be on their show, while new or smaller podcasts are often looking for people to speak as a guest on their show. This is a phenomenal way to generate some noise and get free publicity about your business.
Below are some simple recommendations for landing a speaking engagement on one of your favorite podcasts:
Find a podcast your customers listen to. If you’re a CPA, you obviously won’t want to land a speaking gig on a cooking show. If most of your clients are business owners, consider podcasts geared towards business owners.
What makes you unique? Find something you do that is different, and plan out how you’d speak on that. It’s all about making yourself stand out from the rest.
Sound out of reach? It’s not, and it might be the perfect place to send potential podcast hosts to when you ask to be on their show. Simply having a photo, bio, talking points and any experience you have in speaking can suffice.
If you’re starting from scratch, start small with a few new or smaller podcasts. Reach out to the host, present your talking points and send them to your Press Page. Follow up with something in the mail, and be persistent.
Chances are there are plenty of other businesses out there doing what you do. So how are you unique? Focus on that and you’ll turn more heads. Offer a big discount. Provide a free resource Do something to make some noise.
Whenever you speak on a podcast, make sure you’re providing legit value to your listeners. That’s what podcast hosts will look for, and that’s what will keep people coming back for more.
Best of luck to you as you pursue growing your business through podcasts. If there is anything the team at Oostas can do to serve your business just let us know. We're here to help.
